"I have been to business networking meetings for many years, and I have to say that WBIS was one of the few that felt "like home". I felt welcomed and that this group was the right organization to help me gain contacts for my business, and meet women to build  lasting relationships with as well. I have already with the help of a friend that also went to the newcomer luncheon with me, planned a Mothers Day Tea with a current member of WBIS."

"WBIS is a group that empowers women as they work through the ins and outs, the ups and downs of their businesses.  It is a wonderful networking group of women who are in various types of businesses and at a variety of stages of their businesses.  It is an organization through which I have gained a great deal of knowledge, through our monthly events, meetings and guest speakers, to help me with everything from finding my niche to living the life of my dreams."

"I have been a member of WBIS since ______. (Sheila, can you fill in the year?) My favorite thing about being a member is the reassuring feeling that I am never alone.  I have two different businesses and, through WBIS, I have learned lessons and made connections that help me with both.  I am a representative for the fastest-growing direct sales sterling silver jewelry business in the country and have learned ways to continue to grow my business. I also own and run Yellow Brick Road Studio in Gainesville, through which I do academic tutoring, various enrichment workshops and also sell my own artwork. I enjoy knowing that I am surrounded by a constantly expanding group of like-minded business women.  I have learned that success can be defined in many different ways. The business relationships I have built through WBIS have motivated me to be a better businesswoman.  WBIS is a wealth of information, promotion, tools, networking and most of all, a supportive, safe place to land on my "business feet!"

"Two years ago, I made a significant professional decision to change the direction of my career. After twenty years of working in the private sector for various companies and organizations, I decided to leave the security of a steady income and benefits to become an entrepreneur. I wanted to work for myself - own and operate an image consulting business.Very early into this endeavor, I understood that success in entrepreneurship is facilitated by placing oneself among like-minded women. While taking a workshop to assist me in the unchartered waters of business ownership, I had the good fortune to meet Sheila Dixon, the founder of Women Building and Investing In Success."

"I went to lunch with the Women Building & Investing in Success (www.wbis.biz) group today. Founded in 2003 by Sheila Dixon, they have three local chapters that meet monthly for lunch, workshops and seminars. Membership is aimed at women entrepreneurs who are solo, independent contractors or have small businesses. Many are also Chamber of Commerce members. When I asked if I might speak there about my book, though the site said only members speak at their meetings, Sheila warmly invited me to a meeting to check them out. In three hours, in a group of 25 women, I sold one of my books, gave contact information for online sales to two other women, signed up two more to be interviewed for my next book, another one to follow status reports on my cancer research, and was asked to speak at another organization. Now, that’s power networking. Women network differently than men. I’ve never heard of a men’s group designed solely around passing out business cards and telling others what you do. In most of the networking events I go to, which include both men and women, the event is centered around a program and networking is almost incidental, though repeated surveys of one group I led for two years revealed that most people come for the networking. This event had an excellent speaker, but the aim of the group is primarily to introduce each other to other business women in a trusted, supportive environment to facilitate business connections. There was no talk of sports. No talk of politics. No talk of families. It was all sharing our stories about the businesses we run, what they offer, and how we got started in them. Kind of nice."
